Should All Mobile Networks Pre-Register Children’s Mobile Numbers With the TPS?

What Is the Telephone Preference Service (TPS)?

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the UK’s official “Do Not Call” register, regulated by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
It allows individuals to opt out of receiving unsolicited live sales or marketing calls.

When a number is added to the TPS register, companies that make marketing calls are legally required to check the database and avoid contacting that number. It’s one of the key tools used to combat unsolicited live sales and marketing calls from UK companies.

What Happens When a Number Is TPS-Registered?

Once a number is registered, it’s added to the TPS database within 28 days.
Telemarketing companies must check this database regularly – so calls to those numbers should immediately stop.

For adults, that means peace and quiet.
For children, it means protection from a confusing, intrusive, and even frightening situation.

ParentShield’s Arrangement with the TPS

ParentShield established a direct arrangement with the Telephone Preference Service to pre-register every new number it issues.

That means every ParentShield SIM is entered onto the TPS list before it’s given to a child, so the protection is already in place from day one.
No other UK mobile network does this.

It’s almost unthinkable that mobile networks would hand out new numbers – knowing they’re going to children – without ensuring they’re protected from marketing databases.
